Horned Grebe, Fernhill Wetlands, Forest Grove, Oregon on 24 November 2010 by Greg Gillson. Horned Grebes are more northerly breeders. Eared grebe eat the many water insects, fish, molluscs, and amphibians in their habitat. They nest in large colonies or groups where there is enough vegetation to protect their nest site. Use our Sierra Nevada travel planning map and the Free Mobile App to guide you through a breathtaking landscape that shapes our lives and unforgettable vacations. They spend their winters in the United States. Since these birds do not have good legs for walking on land and they can’t fly far distances they are great long distance swimmers and expert divers. Explore 25 million acres of timeless traditions, local culture, events, and world-class adventures from Lava Beds National Monument to Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks. In the Pacific NW they breed east of the Cascades and Sierra-Nevada Mountains.

Eared Grebes breed throughout the west from southern Canada to Minnesota, south to Texas, and west to California. Welcome to our home.
